Adult Education begins September 11 with discussion of Ta-Nehisi Coate’s book Between the World and Me. The first 20 to 30 pages will be discussed on 9/11 with 25 new pages discussed each Sunday after. Books can be picked up Sunday, 9/4 at $12 each.
Ta-Nehisi Coates offers us a framework to understand America’s building an empire based on a false premise of race that negatively impacts black women and men. He explains what it is like to inhabit a black body. He addresses how we can reckon with this fraught history from slavery, segregation and today the threat of lockup and murder in a letter to his son. His book illuminates the past, bracingly confronts our present, and offers a vision for a way forward.
Co-Housing presentation. Many people speak of feeling disconnected, lonely, or socially isolated. There is a lifestyle that lessens that: cohousing, a way to live in which each family (including singles) has the privacy of their own home but shares a common space with pedestrian streets replacing auto traffic. Twin Cites Cohousing Network is bringing in the movement’s foremost speaker – architect, Chuck Durrett for a local event on September 15 (7-9:00 pm.) Visit tccoho.org and click on the events tab to register. Limited seating. See Brian for more info.
