Fall 2016 Sunday School

Sunday School has begun!  We are excited to get started with our programming! Ann  and I will be teaching Sunday school during the fall, and Tanyia and I will be leading the pageant again starting in November.

We will meet roughly every other week until pageant practices begin (see below for dates). Each week, we will meet downstairs in the big room of the basement, with drop-off between9:25-9:35. Parents will be asked to sign their child in and provide a cell phone number where they can be reached during Sunday school time. (If parents cannot drop off, another adult will need to sign the child in and be available by phone during Sunday school time.) We will have a snack, do a large group song, activity and prayer, then split into two groups for another activity. We are looking for two adult volunteers (you don’t have to be a parent!!) from9:15-9:50 each week to help set up, sign kids in, and supervise the snack/activity time as kids come in; look for the Sign Up Genius invite in a separate email!

The Sunday School schedule for the fall is as follows:

Sept 18

Sept 25

Oct 9

No Sunday School:  Oct 16 and  23

October 30

Nov 6

November 13, 20, 27

December 4, 11, 18 (December 18 is Pageant Sunday)

Pageant practice will begin Nov 13. At that point, we will meet weekly until the pageant performance on Dec. 18. We are hoping to have as many kids as possible at each meeting so we can do some activities and themes that overlap from week to week, so please put these dates on your calendar and plan on coming!

Feel free to email us with any questions. We are looking forward to seeing your kids’ sweet faces and getting to know them even better! Here’s to a great year of Sunday school at BMPC!

St. Joseph Of The Bird Bath

From our member Sharon Johnson –

I asked for perennials as part of the auction earlier this year that goes to support church mission. As spring progressed into June, several members responded, and I had a yard of potted perennials to plant. Although I have lived in my house for two years now, I am finally getting to planting and feeling planted.

As I was digging under my linden tree to put in some shade-loving greenery gifted me by Presbyterian friends, I found a little plastic statue of St. Joseph. Although it isn’t necessarily our tradition (nor, do I think, that of the owners immediately preceding me), a statue of St. Joseph is sometimes buried on the property to either speed the sale of a home or to provide blessing to that home.

It was with delight I found “my” St. Joseph as part of the circle of blessing now completed. He currently presides over the bird bath; he may find another elevated position in my new perennial garden.

The Sheridan Story Receives Mission Gift

Sheridan Story PresentationThe Sheridan Story is the fourth recipient of the $5,000 mission gifts that have been generated by our debt reduction campaign. This organization grew out of the need to get food to school children that do not have enough to eat at home and facilitated a partnership between our church and Bryn Mawr Elementary School.

Camp In a Van coming to Bryn Mawr Presbyterian

Save the date! Camp in a Van is coming to Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, Monday June 17 to Friday June 21.  Camp in a Van is an outreach program of Presbyterian Clearwater Forest which sends their camp counselors and programs to run a day camp in a local church.  The camp will run for one week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm and will be held at the church, 420 Cedar Lake Road S.  The camp counselors will also take advantage of several parks within walking distance for recreational opportunities.  The cost is $75 for one child and $50 for each additional child.  The camp is open to anyone who is currently in grades K-6, so invite a friend but space will be limited.  A typical day involves Bible studies, crafts, games, stories, nature activities and worship.  For more information and registration packets contact Lynda Shaheen or Jamie Schultz at

The Garage Sale is Coming!

Yes – it’s still months away but thanks to the kind and generous people at S&S Self Storage in New Hope, if you have larger items you are planning to donate, we have a place to store them until the sale. S&S Self Storage has donated a 10×20 storage unit that we can fill to the top with treasures. If you have any items you’d like to donate, please contact Robbie Steele and Jen Sampson at to make arrangements for your donation.

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Lessons from Sunday School

We meet people everyday who make a difference in our life and in our community. Last week we talked about Deborah, a prophet and judge, and how she made a difference to all who consulted her under her palm tree for advice. We acted out different scenarios and took our issues to the judge. We often need guidance when making important decisions.
We will continue to talk about people who make a difference in our lives as well as work on our water well which needs some good masons to do the stonework.

Hope to see you the kids on Sunday morning! All are Welcome.

Special school supply collection, September 9, 16 and 23

Special Help for Our Schools This year the Mission Possible Team is exploring how we can offer more support to our neighborhood schools. In the coming months, we’ll be talking about ways all of us can help with gifts of our time and treasure. But for now, we’re focusing on a special kind of school supplies. Many of the children who attend face serious economic challenges. The school staff has shared a list of the needs they must deal with on a regular basis, and we’re asking for your donations. We’ll collect the school’s special request items September 9, 16, and 23. The items include: underwear (especially for older boys), feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, travel size toothpaste, toothbrushes, and gift cards for places where such items might be purchased. You can also donate cash, marking your envelope “school supplies,” and we will convert it into gift cards for you. Thank you for your help in making “back to school” more successful this year.
