January 10, 2021 Worship (1)

Join us for a 7-week discussion of My Grandmother’s Hands: Radicalized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending our Hearts and Bodies. Adult Education discussions are Sundays at 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. via Zoom from January 3 – February 14.

In this book, therapist Resmaa Menakem examines the damage caused by racism from the perspective of trauma and body-centered psychology. He proposes that racism is embedded in the hearts, souls, and reflexes of both blacks and whites in American society and that the trauma inflicted on many is harmful to all. Menakem helps readers get inside the Black experience to encounter everyday threats and the responses of fighting, fleeing, or freezing in order to begin the healing process. This enables us to understand one another better, to grow beyond our entrenched racialized divide, and to build a stronger community.
